Pro-Abortion groups target pro-life pregnancy centers

Late last week, the New York City Council passed legislation targeting pro-life pregnancy centers. The bill, if signed into law by Mayor Bloomberg, would force pro-life pregnancy centers to place a disclaimer over their doors, listing the services they do not provide, such as abortions, and make referrals to organizations that do provide abortions.
Mayor Bloomberg said he will sign this bill into law, but is doing nothing to give the public the opportunity to voice their opinions about this legislation - as is required by law. The ACLJ sent a letter urging Mayor Bloomberg to have a public hearing on the bill.
Sign the petition This effort to shut down pro-life pregnancy centers is being rolled out by Planned Parenthood, NARAL: Pro-Choice America, and pro-abortion legislators - and New York is the model they are using across the country.
The idea is deceptively simple: eliminate the ''competition'' by shutting down pro-life pregnancy centers that counsel women on alternatives to abortion.
How? By forcing pro-life pregnancy centers to comply with overly burdensome new rules and regulations, and incur additional expenses that Planned Parenthood and other abortion centers don't have to comply with.
Make no mistake: this law is an unconstitutional restriction on the free speech rights of pro-life pregnancy centers.
Stand with the ACLJ in our efforts to see this disturbing new law overturned in court and/or repealed. Make your voice heard in defense of life by signing our petition against NARAL and Planned Parenthood's scheme to shut down pro-life pregnancy centers.

Once you've done so, please be sure to forward this urgent message to your pro-life friends and family so their voices can be heard as well.
A federal judge recently struck down a similar law in Baltimore as unconstitutional. He recognized what we have claimed all along: not only is this a baldly political move - it is also an outrageous infringement on free speech rights.
Left unchecked, this New York City law could easily serve as a model for every other city in the nation, if it's allowed to stand.
The outcome of this case will be felt nationwide ... and could result in a massive step backward for the pro-life movement. Most important of all: this is a life-or-death issue for millions of unborn babies.
The ACLJ has been on the front lines of this legislative battle from the start, representing a majority of the pro-life pregnancy centers in New York City. We are currently working on the next stages of the case, researching additional case law and preparing to file a lawsuit to stop this misguided measure. With your help, we can send a powerful message to Mayor Bloomberg: follow the law - let the people's voice be heard.
The help of every pro-life American is urgently needed in order to move quickly and to protect the unborn from the relentless abortion industry. Thank you for answering this crucial call to action.
Sincerely,
Jay Sekulow
ACLJ Chief Counsel
